I have been a councillor for over 10 years in Yarnton Parish Council and 7 years in Kidlington Town council. My focus is to engage with residents to create community projects that connect people with our environment.
I am currently the Deputy Chair of Yarnton Parish Council and sit on the Community Committee at Kidlington Parish Council and the Allotment Committee. I was instrumental in setting up a community orchard in Yarnton and am working towards similar projects in Kidlington, including shared garden spaces in public parks that will help people to grow their own food. I’m also a strong supporter of animal rights and a campaigner for wildlife protection.
I have been involved with local campaign groups and parish councils in monitoring the huge housing and development plans for the area, making sure that developers are addressing flooding issues, ecological impacts and traffic management. I have been campaigning for more safe cycle routes and better public transport and am one of the founder members of the local flood resilience group as well as being an active member of the Kidlington Environment Group.
I have been a volunteer at the local community larder and helped with the washing up and table settings for the local Climatarian kitchen lunch club. I also helped with food deliveries to vulnerable people during the early days of the pandemic.
My main local concerns now are to push for more measures to ensure vulnerable people receive the support they require from local authorities. I continue to campaign for more affordable housing for local families in the area and am working with campaign groups on improving local flood resilience. I’m appalled at the amount of litter in the villages and would like to help set up a Keep Cherwell Tidy Campaign.
