Cllr Tom Beckett
Bicester Town and Cherwell District Green Party Councillor for Bicester East
Tom Beckett sits on the Executive at Cherwell District Council, leading the Greener Communities portfolio, as well as being a councillor at Bicester Town Council. He champions climate action, low carbon transport, zero carbon buildings, community projects, and nature to be embedded into planning as well as the local nature recovery strategy. He believes that lower cost living, and greater resilience can be achieved through taking action on nature and climate.
Tom is an expert in renewable technology, retrofit of buildings and nature-based solutions to climate change. He has scientific knowledge of climate science, ecosystem services and environmental psychology. Tom holds a BSc in Zoology from Bristol University and MSc in Environmental Science from Brunel University.
Outside of councillor work, Tom is the Founder and CEO of Better Century, an organisation that helps people and organisations be net positive for nature and climate. He is the architect of the NetPositiveLifeApp, which allows anyone to align their lifestyle with global goals on nature and climate, and an expert in climate solutions. He currently advises NGOs, and businesses on their net zero and nature positive strategies, working for Nature4Climate and several businesses on their engagement strategies. He has worked for a renewable energy trade association, leading sustainability consultancy Ricardo Energy and the Environment, the Wildlife Trusts and is a former CEO of Green Party of England and Wales.
