Genny Early is a Green Party District Councillor for Stonesfield and Tackley.
Genny has lived in Stonesfieldfor over 20 years, since moving there with her two young sons. After working in academic publishing, Genny now co-runs a small nature-inspired business ‘A Blackbird Sang’ with her partner, employing local people. She therefore has real-world experience of the challenges of growing a business through Covid and the current economic situation.
Genny helps to manage Oxfordshire conservation groups including the Wychwood Flora Group, managing landscape for wild flowers, and the Farmland Bird Aid Network, feeding and monitoring farmland birds and other wildlife. She recently completed an MSc in Conservation Ecology at Oxford Brookes University. She is also restoring 19 acres of local fields to species-rich meadows.
She is the Deputy Leader of the Green Group and serves on several committees, including the Overview and Scrutiny Committee (as Vice-Chair) and the Uplands Area Planning Sub-Committee. She recently proposed the Motion: The Impact of the Planning and Infrastructure Bill on Local Planning and Environmental Protection, asking the government to ensure that Local councils/ communities continue to play a key role in planning for biodiversity, using local knowledge, rather than removing local control of environmental planning, relying instead on national agencies, which could lead to worse outcomes for wildlife, and less accountability.
