RECORD OF ACTION

Helping the most vulnerable

I gave up my career in cancer research to care for my disabled son. My family had an awful experience with the SEND system and I did not want any other family to go through what we did.

For years, I have stood on the doorstep of County Hall as a voice for vulnerable families and children, particularly those affected by the national SEND crisis. When systems have fallen short, I have been there — challenging decisions, pushing back where needed, and fighting for the support families are entitled to.

I have worked across the political spectrum to secure better outcomes, putting people before politics and focusing on what actually delivers change. I have helped develop council policy and strategy on SEND. This isn’t about party lines — it’s about doing what is right.

Alongside this, I have supported families directly — helping them navigate complex services, attending meetings with schools and social services, and ensuring their voices are heard when they might otherwise be overlooked.

If you elect me, I promise you I will continue to make sure voices of all residents are heard in council.

Keeping London Road Open

Since 2023, I’ve been part of a determined community effort to push for a safe and practical solution — I championed the idea for an underpass, launched a petition and helped to gather over 1,000 signatures. This campaign secured the underpass proposal in the official consultation. Calum Miller MP recognised my campaigning on the floor of the House of Commons.

While other candidates may try to claim sole credit, the reality is this has always been a shared effort, driven by committed local people, campaigners, and representatives from many parties working together.

And that’s exactly what local politics needs more of — less point-scoring and rigid party lines, and more collaboration to deliver what residents actually need.

I’m pleased that all sides, including East West Rail and Calum Miller MP, now recognise that a shallow underpass for cars, cyclists and pedestrians is the only viable solution — and I will continue working with anyone, regardless of party, to see it delivered as quickly as possible.

WHAT CLAIRE WILL DO

If elected, I will focus on what the district council can actually deliver:

  • Securing a community hub in Bicester town centre (something local charities are calling for)
  • Ensuring new developments fund the infrastructure local people need
  • Pressing for better road maintenance and long-term solutions
  • Being visible, responsive councillors who listen and act

THE GREENS ARE WINNING IN BICESTER

This is a genuinely competitive election. Support for the Greens is growing locally: we already have Green councillors in Bicester East and Bicester South, and I have endorsements from respected local figures, including your current Independent District Councillor and a former Mayor of Bicester.

“I know that Claire will make an excellent councillor and I wholeheartedly support her campaign to replace me in Bicester West.”

— John Broad

Bicester West has a strong tradition of electing independent-minded councillors who work hard for their community. Like many residents who have supported Independent or Liberal Democrat candidates, I believe in practical local action over party politics.

Green councillors are not bound by rigid party lines — they vote based on what is right for their communities. I will always put Bicester West first.

SHAPING THE FUTURE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Local government in Oxfordshire is changing, with plans for a new unitary authority.

If elected, I will work to ensure this isn’t just a structural change — but a cultural one.

I will push for:

  • Residents with lived experience on decision-making committees
  • A stronger role for community-led projects
  • Services designed with the people who use them

Decisions should be made with communities — not done to them.

What residents are telling me

On the doorstep, people across Bicester West are raising the same concerns:

  • Potholes and inaccessible pavements
  • Litter, especially from drinking in parks
  • Lack of affordable housing
  • Limited support and services for young people
  • A feeling that local voices aren’t being heard

Shaping the future of Oxfordshire council

Local government in Oxfordshire is changing, with decisions soon to be made about how the new “unitary authority” will be organised.

Whatever the outcome, if elected, Claire will work to make sure local people and community groups have a real voice — not just being asked for their views, but being properly involved in decisions.

She will push for:

  • Residents with lived experience to be represented on committees
  • A bigger role for community-led projects
  • The new council to co-produce its service delivery plans with the people who use them

Claire believes decisions should be made with communities — not done to them.
