Alex Leonova Green Party Candidate for Banbury Colthorpe and Easington

About

Alex cares about people and community, and as such is standing to fight for individual security and community cohesion. Having immigrated 15 years ago to Britain, Alex has made a home here living and working in Banbury in the last 5 of those. She has worked in the hospitality and retail sectors in Banbury, working her way up from shop floor to management. Alex also volunteers with local charities and wants to build on that sense of community if she is elected as councillor.

Running for District Council
As a Green party candidate for Calthorpe & Easington on Cherwell District Council, Alex looks to help unify society, which is becoming divided.  Whilst many of the roots to tension and division lie in national and international events, Alex understands that change starts in your home and your own community. She has talked and listened to many people in the communities of Calthorpe & Easington to understand the issues that affect you most. If elected to represent you on Cherwell District Council.  Alex will do everything in her power to help fix the issues that affect your daily lives.  As a Green Party candidate she will be free to act in your best interests, without being told how to vote by the party.  At the same time she will be joining the Green team of councillors to build their strength and influence in the council.

If elected, Alex hopes to:

  • Improve our environment.
  • Work with other councillors to put pressure on the Government and the County council to properly fix the pot hole problem, which is worse in Oxfordshire than most places.
  • Hold property developers to account.

Planning proposals from developers need much more consideration of local services andamenities, rather than the Government’s proposal to reduce the input of local councillors.

We need to ensure:

  • that there is better consideration of traffic flows and not just their impact on the local area, but more broadly in Banbury.
  • that good, affordable public transport is in place to meet the needs of all local residents.
  • Housing that is truly affordable for local residents so that people do not have to move out of Calthorpe & Easington or even Banbury to get on the housing ladder.

We also need to create Community Hubs to:

  • Provide young people places with facilities and activities to meet, socialise and get away from the more toxic aspects of social media.
  • Help to build up social skills, get training and find jobs.
  • Learn to see people for who they truly are, and discover that they have far more incommon than they think.

Care in the community

  • Encourage and promote events and activities by local residents that make Calthorpe & Easington a better community.
  • Looking out for residents, especially the elderly or vulnerable to ensure that they get the support they really need.
  • Increase support for those that are homeless.

Campaign to stop the services in the Horton Hospital being reduced even further.

  • Raise the issues with the hospital at all government levels.
  • Talk wuth local residents about the issues in the last Horton General Hospital – Care Quality Commission report that remain unaddressed.
